It appears as though the Aminé x New Balance Mooz 610 – a trainer that’s been teased since May through a campaign titled ‘A Kid From Portland Has His Own Sneaker’ – has finally ripened, as the collaborative kick has been confirmed to drop this week. The news comes from the Instagram account of the Oregon rapper’s merchandise label, Club Banana.

Following in the footsteps of friend Salehe Bembury who famously switched up the New Balance 574 and christened his interpretation the 574 ‘Yurt’, Animé takes the 610 – a model inspired by Noughties trail shoes – and adapts it to channel his own vibe, adding ‘Mooz’ to the moniker in the process.

The initial colourway of the Mooz 610 plainly nods to the very fruit that Aminé’s brand is named after. A yellow mesh foundation is partially shielded by glossy brown casing and fortified by a black, brown and speckled yellow sole. There are also metallic components, positioned upon the upper and done in a green hue reminiscent of unripe bananas.

Elasticated no-tie laces, a king-size tongue label decorated with a banana graphic and dual-branding, a pull tab that extends down the exterior of the heel and – our favourite detail – a snow globe badge containing a banana cut-out, printed with the model number, further characterises the release from the New Balance ambassador.

Aminé also used his Club Banana Insta to tease the special-edition shoe box for the forthcoming drop. A continuation of the banana theme, the packaging takes inspiration from wooden fruit crates and is finished with a QR code that invites you to learn more about the collaborative project. “When u get these, keep the box well kept. a lot of time was spent on this!!!” commented the Kaytraminé member under the post from his primary account.
