Experimental Menswear Moves Were Nowhere To Be Seen At The Golden Globes
Classic tuxedos save the day
The last awards season was marked by many Big Menswear Moves. Nicholas Hoult wore a draped Dior suit. Mahershala Ali wore a beanie. And, famously, Billy Porter wore a tuxedo in the form of a very viral, very refreshing Cinderella gown. Menswear was going all experimental, they said. Black tie was dead forever, we said.
But sometimes, we (by which I mean, 'I') get it wrong. At the 77th annual Golden Globes, it seems the tide has turned classic once more. The sea was full not of idiosyncrasy, and outfits that send Twitter into convulsions, but of good and proper tuxedos that follow all the correct rules.
Which is no bad thing. Classics are deemed thus because they worked as well today as they did for our grandpas. The same can be said for simple monochrome, too. And if you don't believe us, here are all the finely dressed guests that were content in keeping things a little bit conservative (lower case C, mind).
