A new featurette has shed some new light on Rami Malek’s mysterious villain, Safin, in No Time To Die.

The revenge-driven character will be Daniel Craig’s final nemesis as James Bond, and rumours abound that he is actually Dr No – the first villain that 007 ever faced on film. There are many clues that have pointed fans in that direction, which you can read about here.

Talking about the role in the video, Malek says: “What I really wanted from Safin was to make him unsettling, thinking of himself as being heroic […] Safin is a formidable adversary. James Bond has to adapt.”

We got an inkling that Safin saw himself as a saviour in the most recent trailer when he told Bond: “We both eradicate people to make the world a better place. I just want to be a little… tidier”.

Director Cary Joji Fukunaga doubled down on that idea in the featurette, signifying that the villain would be willing to go to the same lengths as Bond to achieve his ambitions. “What he wants and what he’s willing to do makes him a very frightening character. Both personally to Bond, but also on a global level.”
